The Create Tour, described as the Comic-Con of golf, is returning to the Myrtle Beach area for its flagship tournament, the Southern Invitational. This event will bring nearly 50 social media content creators to Pawleys Island from October 1-4, playing across four courses: Pawleys Plantation, True Blue Golf Club, Litchfield Country Club, and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

Founded by brothers Justin and Ty Young, along with Jeremy Wisotsky, the Create Tour provides a platform for golf content creators to showcase their skills and connect. The Southern Invitational was the tour’s inaugural event in 2022 and, after three years in Tennessee, moved to the South Strand last year. Ty Young stated that the Myrtle Beach area will serve as the Southern Invitational’s permanent home moving forward.

The upcoming Pawleys Island tournament marks the tour’s 12th event. The format will include a two-person four-ball at Pawleys Plantation, individual match play at True Blue, 12 four-person scramble teams at Litchfield, and individual stroke play for the final round at Caledonia. The awards ceremony and banquet are scheduled for Saturday night at Sara J’s restaurant in Garden City Beach, with another gathering at The Aero Club Short Course. The overall tournament is named the Douglas Griffin Cup, honoring a founding member who passed away in his early 30s from cancer.

Local invited players include Teddy McPheeters of Select Sales auto dealership and the Teddy Mac Gives Back charity campaign, Wes Loman of The Salty Golfer, and Cristina Lynn Golf. McLeod Health cancer research has been chosen as the charitable beneficiary, receiving donations from a percentage of sponsorships, largely from local companies.

In addition to the Create Tour event, eMYRge, a nonprofit Entrepreneurial Support Organization based in Myrtle Beach, has announced the first seven companies selected for its inaugural Golf Tech Accelerator Challenge (GTAC). This national event aims to identify and elevate companies influencing the future of golf. The three-day showcase is scheduled for October 6-8 at the HTC Aspire Hub in downtown Myrtle Beach. Participating companies include Groove Golf, Coursecast, Smash Swing, Courserev.ai, Clubhaus, Golf District, and Leaderboard Golf. The program is supported by Golf Tourism Solutions via Play Golf Myrtle Beach, Coastal Carolina University, and is made possible by a Relentless Challenge grant from the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
