The Truist Championship will become part of the PGA TOUR Championship Series starting in 2028, marking a new chapter for the event that has been a staple in the Charlotte area for over two decades. This announcement was made today by the PGA TOUR and the Truist Championship organizers.

The PGA TOUR Championship Series, first announced in June, will feature the TOUR’s top performers competing throughout a season running from February through August. This series is expected to include approximately 23-24 events, encompassing THE PLAYERS Championship, major championships, postseason events, and international team competitions like the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. The full 2028 PGA TOUR schedule, when the Championship Series is set to debut, will be released at a later date.

Truist Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers stated that the inclusion of the Truist Championship in the new series signifies an exciting development for the respected event. He emphasized the continued partnership with the PGA TOUR, Quail Hollow Club, and the Charlotte community, aiming to showcase top players and inspire communities.

Johnny Harris, President of Quail Hollow Club, expressed pride in the Truist Championship’s significant role in the future of the PGA TOUR Championship Series. He noted that Quail Hollow Club has hosted the world’s best players for more than two decades, and this designation reflects the strength of their partnership, fan passion, and the club’s commitment to delivering a world-class championship.

Executive Director Adam Sperling highlighted the tournament’s rich history, competitive excellence, and strong connection with fans and partners in the Charlotte community as reasons for its inclusion in the new series. He added that the Truist Championship will continue to showcase top players and help shape the future of professional golf, building on its 23-year legacy.

The Truist Championship is currently in its 24th year as an annual PGA TOUR stop and its third as a Signature Event. The tournament is scheduled to return to Quail Hollow Club from May 10-16, 2027. Past champions include notable golfers such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, and Rickie Fowler. Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan was recently crowned the 2026 winner, securing a two-shot victory over Rickie Fowler and Nicolai Hojgaard with a 2-under 69 on the final Sunday, marking his first TOUR win at 28 years old.
