## North Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Project Seeks Additional Funding

North Myrtle Beach officials are seeking more funding for a new boardwalk project along House Creek. The project, designed and permitted, still faces the challenge of securing full financial backing. The estimated cost for the boardwalk is six million dollars.

The federal permit plans detail a boardwalk approximately 12 feet wide and nearly 1,500 feet long, running along Lake Drive and 39th Avenue North at House Creek. This project aims to welcome pedestrians and provide a safer environment for fishing in the Cherry Grove area, near the existing Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve. The plans also include a 12-foot by approximately 29-foot walkway for accessibility.

State Representative William Bailey secured 1.22 million dollars from the state budget for the project. This amount is about 1.78 million dollars short of the city’s original state-funding goal of three million dollars. City Manager Ryan Fabbri stated that if bids for the project come in lower than the six-million-dollar estimate, it could reduce or eliminate the funding gap. The city expects to open bids for the project before the end of the year. If funding and contracts are secured, construction could begin by next summer.
