## Little River Bar and Restaurant Struggles Amid Rising Costs

Star Tavern, a bar and restaurant in Little River, is facing significant challenges in remaining open after 12 years of operation. The owner, Ron Johnson, expressed hope that the business could continue through Christmas.

The establishment is under pressure from several factors, including increasing food costs, general inflation, and a substantial liquor liability insurance bill. Johnson noted that the rising cost of essentials, from food to gas, has reduced people’s disposable income, leading to fewer outings.

A new expense, liquor liability insurance, has particularly impacted Star Tavern. This policy cost the business over $30,000 last year and has since increased to $35,000. In an effort to adapt, Star Tavern is attempting to implement a cover charge. While this initiative has garnered some support, it has not been favored by local patrons.

Star Tavern is not alone in its struggles, as other local establishments, including Thonry’s, Magnolia’s on 26th, Voodoo Brewing Company, and MOD Pizza, have also closed due to financial pressures.
