MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Horry County’s new Central Coast Complex is open in Carolina Forest, putting tax offices, court services and a police precinct closer to residents on the Myrtle Beach, S.C., side of the county.

The building at 332 Hinson Drive houses the assessor, auditor and treasurer offices, a satellite clerk of court office, magistrate courtrooms and probate court offices. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A county spokesman said the courtrooms are among the last pieces to be finished and should open in the next few weeks.

The complex is also the permanent home of the Horry County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct. The spokesman said the county did not lack police presence in Carolina Forest but wanted more resources there for officers on standby, which should also help cut wait times after 911 calls.

The project cost just under $20 million, according to the county. Construction was announced in 2023, and the building had been expected to be done in 2025. Residents who once had to drive to Conway or to offices along the Grand Strand can now handle county business closer to home, though at least one resident said communication about closing a different tax office caused some confusion.

The county is asking for patience while systems come online. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting is set for Friday, Oct. 16.
