Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Grand Strand residents face a soaking weekend from Hurricane Isaias moisture, with gusty winds, a low-end tornado risk and a list of local events already moved or canceled.

Forecasts call for most locations to receive 2 to 4 inches of rain, with the heaviest totals Saturday night into Sunday morning before showers taper Sunday. Gusts around 30 mph are possible on the eastern side of the circulation.

Forecasters also flagged a Level 1 severe weather risk Saturday for brief spin-up tornadoes in tropical rain bands, plus a Level 2 excessive rainfall risk across the region.

Organizers across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand reshuffled plans. Taste of The Market Common moved to Oct. 17, and the 43rd Annual Sweet Potato Festival in Darlington was canceled, though a related mahjong open play and sweet potato bake sale remained set for midday.

Some gatherings were still expected to proceed, including the 20th Annual Little River Shrimp Fest on Saturday and Sunday at the Historic Little River Waterfront and a bully dog show Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Coastal Carolina’s fall baseball exhibition series against Clemson was adjusted to Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Residents were told to watch for more schedule changes as rain bands arrive.
