MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — About 1,400 runners took to Myrtle Beach streets for the 17th annual Mini Marathon and Coastal 5K on Oct. 10, finishing on the oceanfront Boardwalk even as wind and heavy rain cut into expected turnout.

Participants chose between the 13.1-mile mini marathon and the 3.1-mile Coastal 5K. Organizers said the field was smaller than planned because of the weather, with the race starting in a downpour and strong wind before conditions eased later.

Volunteers staffed the course, including a race sweeper who encouraged runners who were struggling, and the event closed with an awards ceremony for top finishers followed by a gathering at Grand Strand Brewing.

Official race results pages list yearly Corey Morrison Fastest Local awards for Grand Strand finishers and keep multi-year board results for both the half marathon and Coastal 5K distances.

Tourism is the dominant economic engine of Myrtle Beach and the broader Grand Strand, drawing more than 20 million visitors annually, and fall road races feed that visitor calendar even when tropical leftover rain complicates race-day logistics.
