Myrtle Beach, S.C. — The Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance is asking the public to help shape future changes along Ocean Boulevard between 7th Avenue North and 12th Avenue South.

The alliance plans to use the feedback to build out improvement plans and to help with grant writing for the stretch, which has become tourist-heavy. Residents who have weighed in so far point to added lighting as the top need, along with more outdoor green space such as at Plyler Park and steady code enforcement.

Jason Greene, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance, said tourism is a big part of the downtown economy and the goal is an environment where locals and visitors both feel welcome.

The new round of input builds on earlier work. This summer, crews hung string lights along poles on Ocean Boulevard from Ninth Avenue North to 14th Avenue South as part of the alliance multi-year Ocean Boulevard revitalization initiative to improve public safety and create a more welcoming downtown.

Myrtle Beach City Council approved that lighting project, which was funded through the city capital budget. The alliance has said merchants asked for lighting first.
