MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Hundreds of animal lovers brought their pets out on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 18, for the yearly Walk for the Animals put on by the Grand Strand Humane Society at Grand Park in The Market Common in Myrtle Beach.

The fundraiser ran from noon until 4 p.m. Along with the walk, the day offered raffles, a free photo booth and costume contests for pets, while vendors sold food, coffee and crafts around the park.

Adoptions were free during the event, and several dogs left with new families before the day was over. Former shelter animals now living in homes also came back with their owners.

Executive Director Jess Wnuk said the money raised stays with the humane society and pays for daily shelter operations. That includes food and vaccines for incoming animals as well as emergency medical care.

People who want to adopt or volunteer can reach the shelter directly.
