MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Dr. Annie Andrews brought her campaign this week to Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a Myrtle Beach congregation, telling Horry County residents that making life affordable would be her top job in Washington.

Andrews, a pediatrician, took questions from a full room and returned again and again to the cost of living and the price of health care. She also took aim at Sen. Darline Graham, faulting the Republican for being largely absent from the campaign trail.

Voters who came out brought a wide list of worries. Education, health care and access to Medicaid for underserved neighborhoods came up, along with gun violence, the wars in Iran and Ukraine, and reproductive rights for women.

A win on Nov. 3 would make Andrews the first Democrat to hold one of South Carolina’s Senate seats since 2003, and the first woman the state has ever elected to the chamber.

Early voting is already open across South Carolina ahead of Election Day.
