MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — John Heflin, a former Camden Military Academy dean, now faces charges that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old in Myrtle Beach during July 2014, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said.

State agents arrested the 55-year-old Thursday on a count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor, plus a count of contributing to a minor’s delinquency. Warrants say he gave the teen alcohol during the same period.

The person, now an adult, came forward during the SLED investigation, according to the warrants. He was taken to Horry County’s J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

The new counts add to earlier cases. SLED first charged Heflin in 2024 after the school dismissed him over online messages with a cadet, and he was arrested again in 2025 on several sex-related counts tied to students. The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office is handling the latest case.

The charges are accusations, and Heflin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
