MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Drivers along the Myrtle Beach oceanfront will keep detouring around 24th Avenue North a while longer. The city has pushed the closure of Ocean Boulevard at that intersection out to Nov. 20.

Crews are moving water, sewer and stormwater lines there so a new pump station and storm drains can go in at 24th Avenue North, the city said. Detour signs remain up, and the city expects this stretch of Ocean Boulevard to open again before Thanksgiving weekend.

When the work started on Oct. 19, city officials planned for the intersection to be shut only through Thursday, Nov. 5, which means the new end date adds a little more than two weeks.

The intersection work is one piece of a longer job. 24th Avenue North itself is closed between Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway while crews relocate a pump station and improve storm drainage, and project officials expect that closure to last through August 2027. Drivers in the area should allow extra time and follow posted signs.
