Celebration Time for Golf Travel Writers of America as They Mark 20 Years!

The Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA) recently reached a tremendous milestone, celebrating their 20th anniversary in style! On January 22, 2025, the organization gathered at the bustling Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, aligning their annual meeting with the ever-popular 2025 PGA Merchandise Show.

The GTWA was founded back in 2005 with a mission to champion the voices of journalists dedicated to golf travel, and they’ve made quite a splash in the industry. This year’s meeting was particularly exciting for all involved, as it welcomed an impressive array of new members into the fold.

Who’s New in the Club?

Some notable new members include former presidents of the Golf Writers of America, the dynamic duo of Gary D’Amato and Gary Van Sickle. Adding to the excitement, veteran golf travel writer Tom Bedell and John Glozek, the publisher of New York Golf Magazine, also joined. Glozek brings the additional title of president of the International Network of Golf to the table. Not to be outdone, television show host Tony Leodora from “Traveling Golfer” is also among the fresh faces.

The list didn’t stop there! A host of other enthusiastic newcomers such as Bill Cuebas, Mike May, Lewis Markham, Kathlene Bissell, Larry Baush, and Anthony Pioppi have also joined the ranks, adding even more talent to this vibrant community of golf travel enthusiasts.

A Day Full of Excitement

This year, the fun didn’t stop with the meeting. Earlier in the week, Lewis Markham claimed victory in the GTWA’s annual golf tournament, which took place at the beautiful Mission Resort + Club located just north of Orlando. It was an exhilarating tournament that showcased not only Markham’s skills but the camaraderie and competitive spirit that the GTWA embodies.

Plans for the Future

With the changing times, the GTWA is embracing a new chapter. The executive director, Len Ziehm, expressed great joy regarding the buzz and enthusiasm reflected during the organization’s reorganization. The GTWA is currently in the process of officially registering as a non-profit organization in Florida, crafting its board structure, and mapping out exciting member outings for 2025.

The first outing of the year is already on the calendar! Scheduled for January 23 at the esteemed Heathrow Legacy Country Club, this event will be organized by Concert Golf Partners’ publicist, Michael Abramowitz. This outing promises to be a special showcase, highlighting Concert Golf Partners’ substantial $3 million investment in upgrades to the club. Players will enjoy two stunning courses designed by the renowned architects Ron Garl and Tom Fazio.

A Community of Golf Travel Enthusiasts

The GTWA is not just any membership. The organization boasts a wonderfully diverse group, including writers, editors, producers, and podcasters, all united with a common interest in golf travel. The GTWA also welcomes corporate memberships, serving golf course officials, resort representatives, and golf-industry PR and marketing professionals keen to get involved.

As the GTWA moves forward, it continues to foster connections within the golf travel community. With exciting outings, an expanding membership, and a renewed focus, the organization looks set to have a bright future ahead.
