News Summary

Myrtle Beach is preparing for significant weather changes as a cold front approaches, bringing a First Alert for severe storms. With wind gusts up to 50 mph and heavy downpours expected, residents are urged to stay vigilant. Following the storms, the region could face winter weather next week, including the possibility of snow. Local officials recommend preparations to ensure safety during these turbulent weather conditions, which may also affect community services.

Severe Weather Alert for Myrtle Beach!

Hey there, Myrtle Beach! If you’ve been soaking up the lovely weather lately, now’s the time to enjoy it because a significant cold front is rolling in starting tomorrow. Yep, you heard it right! A FIRST ALERT has been issued as we prepare for some stronger storms heading our way.

Sundays: A Mixed Bag of Weather

As we head into tonight, clouds will start to thicken up, keeping our temperatures nice and mild, hovering in the mid-60s. However, don’t forget to hold onto your hats, because winds will become a bit breezy with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any crazier, get ready for Sunday, when the weather takes a sharp turn!

On Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise into the low to mid-70s, but don’t let that fool you! The National Weather Service has put the area under a LEVEL 2 risk for severe storms due to that incoming cold front.

What to Expect: The Main Players

So what can we expect from this storm system? The main threats include:

  • Strong wind gusts between 40 – 50 mph
  • Heavy downpours that might cause some flooding
  • Lightning that could send you scrambling indoors
  • A low threat of isolated tornadoes – yikes!

Be on the lookout because storms are slated to start impacting the Pee Dee region between 9 AM to 11 AM. Then, prepare for Horry and Georgetown counties to feel the effects around noon, followed by the Grand Strand from 1 PM to 3 PM. It’s important to keep an eye on the skies, because any storm that meets the right conditions could potentially produce a tornado!

Tornado Risk and Heavy Rainfall

While the tornado risk dwindles as the system moves into the Grand Strand area, strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall are still very much on the cards, so don’t let your guard down! Rain could stick around through Sunday night before finally clearing up overnight.

Winter Weather on the Horizon

winter weather next week. This could mean freezing rain, sleet, or even snow might be knocking at our doorstep! There’s about a 20% to 30% chance of a winter storm impacting the area next Wednesday.

As temperatures dip into the low 20s at night and rise only to the mid-30s during the day from Monday through Wednesday, there’s a lot to prepare for. The uncertainty of what type and how much precipitation is coming adds another layer of intrigue to the forecast!

Preparation is Key

  • Stay on top of the forecast by checking it regularly
  • Avoid outdoor activities during the coldest parts of the day
  • Bring your pets indoors and make sure they have food and water
  • Insulate and monitor your pipes to prevent freezing
  • Fuel up your vehicle and consider putting together a winter survival kit

Community Preparedness

4 to 5 inches of snow if the winter storm heads this way.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates as the situation unfolds. And remember to rely on reliable sources for the latest weather information. Stay safe and stay warm, Myrtle Beach!
