After completing her education, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in secondary English education from California University of Pennsylvania and followed it up with a master’s degree in adolescent education from Mercy College in the bustling heart of New York City. Before returning to her roots at CFHS, Turner spent six valuable years teaching in a small town in New York. Remarkably, she became the youngest department head at her previous school after just three years. Her experience has largely been with high school students, covering grades nine through eleven, and she has a knack for connecting with her students like no other.
The Journey Back to Carolina Forest
Turner and her husband returned to Horry County to support her parents during a challenging time. Once the decision was made, she didn’t waste any time applying for an English teacher position at CFHS; in fact, she did so the very next day and was hired on the spot! Now, she inspires and engages her classes of 85 students, teaching both English II honors and English III College Prep courses.
Her journey as an educator began in third grade, not long after she was inspired by her teacher, Mrs. Purvis. That spark propelled Turner to shadow her former teacher while fulfilling her master’s degree requirements at Black Water Middle School. Another touchstone in her educational journey was Mrs. Twigg—the creative writing teacher who helped her discover her unique writing voice.
Creating Connections in the Classroom
What sets Turner apart is her ability to cultivate a family-like atmosphere within her classroom. One highlight of the year includes the delightfully festive tradition of bringing in a stunning seven-and-a-half-foot Christmas tree. Her students get creative, decorating it with homemade ornaments inspired by the novels they read in class. It’s not just about the books; it’s about the bonds they create and the memories they share.
Turner’s mantra, “once my student, always my student,” reflects her commitment to nurturing long-term relationships with her students. She is deeply appreciative of what CFHS represents—its vibrant school spirit, rich history, and supportive administration amplify her love for teaching.

When she’s not inspiring her students, Turner enjoys spending quality time outdoors with her husband of 15 years and their son, who currently attends Carolina Forest Elementary School.
