Coastal Carolina University has unveiled its new Indoor Practice Facility, spanning 93,000 square feet. This state-of-the-art facility features a full-size synthetic football field, training areas, and an observation tower, enhancing athletic infrastructure and community events. Designed to host a range of activities, it strengthens the bond between the university and the local community, supported by philanthropic contributions.

Conway, South Carolina – Coastal Carolina University (CCU) has officially opened its new Indoor Practice Facility, a significant enhancement to the school’s athletic infrastructure and community event offerings. The state-of-the-art facility spans 93,000 square feet and is strategically located just south of Brooks Stadium.

This new addition to CCU’s campus includes a full-size synthetic football field, an observation tower designed for coaching staff, a training room, and various athletic training spaces. The facility is designed to be bright and welcoming, incorporating natural light through clerestory windows, garage bay doors, and double-height glazing throughout.

The architectural vision for the facility was realized through the collaboration of Garvin Design Group, acting as the Architect of Record, alongside the national sports architecture firm HNTB. Contract Construction was responsible for managing all construction services involved in the project.

Terry Buchmann, Principal at Garvin Design Group, emphasized the importance of the facility in enhancing the university’s athletic programs. The project aims not only to support CCU’s student-athletes but also to act as a hub for various community activities. Greg Hughes, President of Contract Construction, pointed out the facility as a milestone for the university, highlighting its potential long-term benefits for athletes, coaches, and students alike.

The Indoor Practice Facility is envisaged to host an extensive range of events. These include club sports, intramural competitions, commencement ceremonies, and different community gatherings, thereby fostering stronger connections between the university and the surrounding community.

The realization of this project was made possible through substantial philanthropic support, including notable contributions from Conway Medical Center in collaboration with Novant Health and Joe Moglia, who serves as both CCU’s Chair of Athletics and Executive Director for Football.

Garvin Design Group, recognized for its excellence in architectural design, has previously received accolades including the 2019 Firm Award from AIA SC and the 2020 Small Business of the Year Award from the Columbia Chamber. Since its inception in 2003, the firm has successfully completed over $1.2 billion worth of projects across various sectors.

HNTB Corporation, a leader in providing infrastructure solutions, contributed its extensive planning, design, and construction management experience to ensure the facility meets the modern needs of collegiate athletics. Contract Construction specializes in various project delivery methods, focusing on maintaining quality, timely completion, and cost-effectiveness on all projects.

This investment in the new Indoor Practice Facility represents a broader commitment by Coastal Carolina University to enhance its athletic and community engagement capabilities, making it an integral part of the university’s efforts to provide outstanding services and facilities to its students and the community.
