Myrtle Beach: A Perfect Start for Kennesaw State and High Point Golf Teams

Golf enthusiasts, gather round! Myrtle Beach, SC has officially become the stage for the season openers of both Kennesaw State University and High Point University’s men’s golf teams. Both squads brought their A-game to the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, showcasing some impressive skills and hustling fiercely on the greens.

Kennesaw State: A Steady Start

First up, we have the Kennesaw State men’s golf team, which kicked off its season with a solid showing. After three days of gripping competition, they finished 2-under overall with a total score of 862 over 54 holes. They surely made waves—quite literally, given the picturesque setting of Myrtle Beach!

Head Coach Bryant Odom couldn’t help but express his pride in the team’s performance. The players really showed what they are made of, with five of the six KSU players scoring under par during the tournament. A highlight reel would definitely include their final round, where the team achieved their lowest score of the tournament—a remarkable 2-under-par 286.

Fresh Faces Shine

Leading the pack for KSU was freshman Walker Gantt, who tied for 16th place at 3-under 213. What a debut! Gantt was on fire during the final round, scoring 1-over 73 and wrapping up the day with birdies on the last three holes. Throughout the tournament, he amassed a jaw-dropping total of 14 birdies and 30 pars.

Backing him up was Kyle Bachkosky, who finished tied for 20th at 2-under 214 after an even-par 72 on his last round. Luca Gallingani caught attention by recording the lowest round for KSU on the final day with a 2-under 70, finishing tied for 33rd at 1-over 217.

Meanwhile, Shaun Cook maneuvered through the course nicely, finishing tied for 38th at 2-over 218 after shooting a 1-under 71. While Josh Ledford had a tough day with a score of 76, landing him tied for 79th at 13-over 229, it was still a learning experience for him.

Looking Ahead

As they pack up their clubs, the KSU team is already setting their sights on the upcoming J.T. Poston Invitational, scheduled from September 14-16 in Waynesville, North Carolina. One can expect them to keep improving and showcasing their skills on yet another stunning course.

High Point: Hole-in-One Highlight

13th place out of 16 teams, but they sure had their moments of glory. The standout among them was Carter Pitcairn, who not only finished 8th individually with an impressive score of -5 (211) but also made headlines for achieving his very first collegiate hole-in-one! This amazing feat happened during the intense third round on the eighth hole with an 8-iron from 184 yards away.

In addition, Pitcairn absolutely crushed the greens on the final day with a 7-under-par (65) round, tying for the second-lowest round in the school’s history, truly remarkable!

Other High Point Performers

Additionally, Burch Harrison tied for 33rd at +1 (217) after a solid final round of 1-under-par 71. Tully Super and Shlok Jain rounded out the team’s scoring, finishing tied for 66th at +9 (225) and tied for 79th at +13 (229), respectively. Jay Smith also joined the pack, tying for 81st at +15 (231).

The Road Ahead

Both the Kennesaw State and High Point University men’s golf teams have set a fantastic tone for the season ahead. As they venture into their next competitions, there’s no doubt fans will be eagerly following their journeys. With talent like theirs and the invaluable experiences gained at Myrtle Beach, both teams are surely ones to watch this season!
