Exciting Times Ahead for Clemson Golf Team in Chattanooga!

Chattanooga, Tennessee is gearing up to host the Invitational at the Honors Course, and the Clemson golf team is ready to seize the moment! Mark your calendars for September 15-16, 2025, as this tournament promises to be a thrilling contest featuring top-notch teams from across the nation. The Clemson Tigers will face off against a lineup of strong competitors in what is sure to be an exciting weekend.

A Challenging Format

Over the course of the tournament, participating teams will navigate the challenging landscape of the Honors Course, which was expertly crafted by renowned golf course designer Pete Dye. Known for its beauty and difficulty, this par 72 course opened its doors in 1983 and has a storied history, having previously hosted the US Amateur and the NCAA tournament. The tournament format will consist of 36 holes played on the first day, followed by 18 additional holes to conclude the contest on the second day.

Who’s Competing?

The field is loaded with talent, featuring twelve teams in total. From the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), we’ll see teams like Clemson, Duke, and Virginia. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) will also make its presence known with strong teams like Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Auburn. Further diversifying the lineup are schools like Marquette, the host team UT Chattanooga, College of Charleston, and Pepperdine.

National Rankings to Watch

While national rankings are still to be revealed, it’s anticipated that up to a staggering seven out of the top ten teams in the nation will participate. This sets the stage for an epic showdown! A high-level competition with teams at the top of their game can only mean one thing: the excitement is palpable!

Clemson’s Recent Performance

Coming off a solid performance at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, where they finished tied for second place among 16 teams, the Tigers are confident and ready to charge into this tournament. Star golfer Thomas Higgins leads the Clemson lineup, having secured an impressive eighth-place finish in Myrtle Beach with a stellar score of five-under-par 211. This marks Higgins’ fifth top ten finish in his career—what a feat!

Meet the Lineup

Joining Higgins are key players such as Rich Wills and Oscar Bredkjaer, who both showcased their skills at Myrtle Beach by tying for twentieth place. Wills shone brightly with an opening round score of 68, equaling his career-best, while Bredkjaer notched the best round of any Clemson golfer at the event, crafting a fantastic bogey-free 65.

Rounding out the lineup are Colin Salema, who posted an overall score of one-under par 215, and Lucas Augustsson, who made his mark with an even-par score of 216 at Myrtle Beach. Augustsson, a transfer from East Carolina, has consistently displayed strong performance, being one of the top returning golfers from last year’s squad.
