Myrtle Beach Spring into Community Spirit!
On a bright and sunny day, the City of Myrtle Beach came alive with the incredible energies of volunteers during the annual Day of Caring, organized by the United Way of Horry County. The event shines a spotlight on community involvement, and this year, one of the standout volunteer sites was the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues.
Transforming the Miracle Leagues
At the Miracle Leagues, volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got busy beautifying the ballpark. From painting bleachers to refresh the look of the seating areas, to giving the dugouts a fresh coat of paint, these selfless helpers truly transformed the space for the athletes. The Executive Director of Grand Strand Miracle Leagues, Stephanie Warren, couldn’t agree more about the importance of community support. The organization has a dedicated team but relies heavily on volunteers to help with day-to-day operations.
A Platform for All
For over 20 years, the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues has provided an amazing platform for individuals with disabilities to participate in sports. This includes everything from baseball to swimming, basketball, and even golf! The inclusive spirit of this organization gives athletes a chance to shine on the field, fostering friendships and creating memories that last a lifetime.
Mark Your Calendars for Free Cone Day!
In an exciting upcoming event, Ben & Jerry’s is hosting its annual Free Cone Day on April 8. This year, they have teamed up with the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues to help raise funds for their programs. From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., ice cream lovers can enjoy a free scoop of their favorite flavor at several Ben & Jerry’s locations in Myrtle Beach. The goal? To generate at least $1 per cone, with hopes of raising over $13,000 for the Miracle Leagues!
A Community Tradition
Free Cone Day has been a sweet tradition since its inception in 1979, allowing Ben & Jerry’s to give back to the community in a delicious way. With the help of supporters over the years, the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues continues its mission to make sports accessible to everyone.
Exciting Improvements Ahead
Beyond ice cream, the Miracle Leagues has exciting plans for the upcoming 2024 season. The organization has installed a brand new field surface after an extensive fundraising effort backed by community partners. Players can look forward to more than just a new field; improvements also include communication boards in dugouts, a water bottle filler station, an adult changing table, and specialized sensory bags to aid those with sensory needs.
Player Registration and Rescheduled Games
This season, around 125 players are already registered and eager to hit the field! However, everybody should note that due to rain, games originally scheduled for Friday have been postponed. New game times are set to kick off on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. Be sure to check in and support the players!
Get Ready for Toy Drive Season
In addition to all the upcoming activities, the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh are also giving back to the Miracle Leagues by organizing a halfway to Christmas Toy Drive. They’re collecting unwrapped toys for the Miracle Leagues’ annual holiday celebration. You can drop off toy donations at designated locations or bring them to the Toy Drive event scheduled for June 14. Requested items include sports equipment and gifts suitable for all ages, so dig deep and spread the holiday cheer!
Myrtle Beach is bustling with energy, excitement, and an unwavering commitment to community service. Whether you’re enjoying an ice cream cone or volunteering your time, every little bit counts to support amazing causes like the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues. Let’s keep the spirit of giving alive!
