Born to Jim and Philomena Brennan, with her mother having predeceased her, Joanne was not just a daughter but also a loving sister and the best friend of her sister Susan. Her warmth and kindness created a ripple effect of affection through countless cousins and friends who will forever cherish their memories with her.
A Dedicated Educator
Joanne spent her life pouring her heart into education, leaving her mark as a much-loved and respected teacher within the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB). With over 30 years of teaching experience, Joanne had an extraordinary ability to connect with her students, winning the admiration of both parents and fellow colleagues. In addition to her teaching duties, Joanne also had a passion for coaching and led her volleyball team to the proud title of City Champs in 1978.
From Classroom to Retirement
Upon retiring in 2003, Joanne continued her active lifestyle, diving headfirst into golfing, curling, and joining weekly bridge games. Community members will fondly remember her fun bridge weekends, lively golf trips to places like Myrtle Beach, and curling bonspiels. All these activities allowed her to forge many lasting friendships, each filled with laughter and joy.
A Traveler at Heart
Joanne’s adventurous spirit took her far and wide, traveling to stunning locations in the Caribbean, Cuba, Hong Kong, Australia, South America, Europe, and Great Britain. Every trip added to her rich tapestry of life experiences, and she thoroughly enjoyed attending national curling events across Canada with her closest friends.
A Baker and Gardener Extraordinaire
Known far and wide for her exceptional baking skills, Joanne delighted friends and family by sharing her homemade goodies, especially during Christmas. Her nurturing side extended beyond the kitchen as she spent countless hours in her garden, ensuring her flower beds were nothing short of spectacular. By applying tips from garden seminars, she won multiple community Beautiful Garden Certificates, including one in 2025, truly showcasing her green thumb.
Final Goodbyes
Friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home in Scarborough, Ontario, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM. A mass celebrating Joanne’s life will take place at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Brechin, Ontario, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 10 AM.
