Suspect Accused of Credit Card Fraud Sought by Horry County Authorities

Incident occurred at Conway Medical Center; Suspect Used Stolen Credit Cards for Purchasing Gift Cards

Conway– Local authorities are on the lookout for a suspect who is accused of credit card fraud in Horry County. The person alleged of the crime is associated with the theft of a wallet from the vicinity of the Conway Medical Center on Monday, February 26, 2024. The stolen credit cards were later illicitly used to purchase multiple gift cards from various Walgreens, as made known by the Horry County law enforcement.

Investigation Underway

The Horry County police are currently making efforts to identify and apprehend the individual. The suspect, a woman, was caught on camera making the fraudulent transactions. The police have released an image of the woman believed to be the suspect in the hope that someone recognizes her and gets in touch with the authorities.

Indications from the preliminary investigation suggest the suspect had stolen the wallet at some point on Monday and immediately proceeded to use the credit cards inside for purchases. Law enforcement is particularly interested in tracing the gift cards bought using the stolen credit cards in order to gain more insights into the fraudulent activities.

Call for Public Assistance

The police are making an earnest appeal to the public for any information related to the suspect or the incident. Any person with details that could aid the investigation should contact the Horry County Police Department (HCPD) tipline at 843-915-8477. All information will undoubtedly be invaluable in helping to locate and apprehend the suspect, and to bring the case to a close.

Warning Against Identity Theft and Credit Card Fraud

This incident serves as a wakeup call for Horry County residents to be hyper-vigilant about their personal belongings, especially those containing sensitive information such as credit cards. Identity theft and credit card fraud are not uncommon, and the potential for their occurrence is amplified in public spaces where pickpocketing or unattended wallets can lead to dire consequences.

The County Police Department also advocates for … the use of cashless or digital payment methods whenever possible, as a preventive measure. With digital transactions, customers have an extra layer of security that physical credit cards don't provide. Identity theft and credit card frauds can easily lead to financial ruin, hence all cardholders should be heedful about where and how they use their cards and should closely monitor their financial transactions.

As the search and investigation continue, the guidance from the Conway police is clear – it is more vital now than ever to ensure that credit cards and personal information are not easily accessible to would-be thieves and opportunistic individuals.
