Oxendine Named Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Coastal Carolina University

Return of Coastal Carolina’s Former Player Shaping the Future of Chanticleer Baseball

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s athletics department sees a key reshuffle as Chad Oxendine, a former player, is appointed as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the university’s esteemed baseball program.

“It’s hard to put my thoughts and feelings into words. My family and I are overjoyed to be able to come back ‘home’,” expressed an elated Oxendine. “Thank you to Coach Schnall for believing in me and fulfilling my biggest dream. Coastal Carolina has always been a major part of my life and career. Having the opportunity to wear the Teal and Black again makes me speechless.”

After a successful three-season stint as the head coach at Longwood, Oxendine returns to Coastal Carolina, where he previously served as the director of baseball operations and later as director of player development, operations, and analytics.

A Strong Legacy and a Promising Future

Kevin Schnall, the recently appointed head coach of the Chanticleers, commented on Oxendine’s return. “We are thrilled to have Chad as our Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Ox is one of the best leaders to ever wear the Coastal uniform, and his impact on our program will be immense. His love for Coastal is unmatched, and his return is a significant gain for us.”

During his previous tenure at Coastal Carolina, Oxendine played a pivotal role, helping the team win Sun Belt tournament championships in 2018 and 2019, ultimately leading to NCAA Regional appearances. His teams achieved a 43-19 overall win record in 2018 and maintained strong performances throughout his tenure.

Building on a Rich Coaching History

Before his time at Longwood, Oxendine held various prestigious coaching positions including as Longwood’s top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, and prior to that, as the hitting coach for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. His extensive coaching experience is expected to enhance both Coastal’s gameplay and strategic recruiting efforts.

Oxendine had a distinguished playing career at Coastal Carolina, contributing to four consecutive Big South titles and playing a key role during NCAA Regionals. His deep-rooted connection to the university makes his return a significant moment for both him and the Coastal Carolina community.

Oxendine’s Personal and Professional Journey

Born in Rowland, N.C., Oxendine is a Coastal Carolina graduate with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He is married to Adrienne Waack and is a father to four children. His return to Coastal Carolina represents not only a career milestone but also a meaningful personal homecoming.
