Charleston Family Reunited with Missing Dog After Frightening Boat Crash
Charleston, SC – In an event marked by fear and uncertainty, a heartwarming reunion took place when Rocky, a golden retriever, went missing after a dreadfully unexpected boat crash, only to be found safe and sound two days later.
Eventful Journey of Rocky and Wiseman Family
More than just a pet, Rocky has been a pivotal member of the Wiseman household for over a year. Known for his sweet demeanor, he was known to gel up with everyone, his love for boating was particularly apparent, making him an endearing part of the Charleston clan’s boating excursions.
However, peace turned into pandemonium on June 23 when the Wiseman family boat, captained by Jeff Wiseman, veered off course and collided with an abandoned dock on the Ashley River. The terrifying incident led to a few broken ribs and other injuries for Jeff, and their beloved golden retriever, Rocky, nowhere to be found as darkness began to creep in.
“Our worst fear of course was that Rocky had perished and he was in the water somewhere,” said owner Kim Wiseman with a heavy heart.
Light of Hope in the Darkness
However, the fact that Rocky was last seen with a life jacket on, instilled a glimmer of hope in the family’s heart. The search for Rocky began in earnest with the help of responders and the region around Dolphin Cove Marina. News of Rocky’s disappearance spread like wildfire through social media, prompting an impassioned community response. Locals began their own searches, using everything from drones to kayaks to locate the lost canine.
A Touching Reunion
It was the vigilance of a couple living on the other side of the river who spotted a perplexed Rocky in their backyard and recognised him as the missing retriever. Upon getting the call that Rocky was found, the joy and relief Wiseman family experienced was unparalleled.
Despite being a little worn out and nursing a swollen ankle, Rocky was otherwise unharmed. The family believes the stubbornness of their loveable pet and the life jacket he had on helped him stay afloat and alive.
Life is Unpredictable
This heartwarming incident serves as a sobering reminder of how life is unpredictable, and even the most seasoned and skilled can face moments of carelessness that can lead to unforeseen accidents. For the Wiseman family, this experience has poignant takeaways: always be prepared for emergencies, never underestimate the power of community, and do not forget to give your pets swimming lessons and a life-jacket.
