No bond set for man accused of killing Virginia teen in Myrtle Beach shooting

Myrtle Beach, S.C. Shooting Death of Virginia Teenager

The individual suspected in the fatal shooting of a Virginia teenager in Myrtle Beach will continue to remain in custody in Horry County. Following the incident, Gary Abraham, 18, an Aiken resident, faces multiple charges in relation to the death of 16-year-old Jakolbi Taylor. The charges against Abraham include murder, three counts of attempted murder, and a count of possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Unsuccessful Attempt for Bail

Bond was not granted to Abraham during a Sunday hearing in Myrtle Beach. The presiding municipal court judge clarified that a circuit court judge holds the responsibility to decide on the bond. Although no dates have been scheduled for a bond hearing in the circuit court, Abraham is due for an initial appearance in Conway on September 20. Assisting in the case were the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Remembering Jakolbi Taylor

Taylor, an AAU basketball team member, was visiting Myrtle Beach when he was shot dead on July 20 at 16th Avenue North’s beach access. Responding to the scene around 1:15am, Myrtle Beach police recounted observing multiple individuals fleeing from the scene.

Reactions to the Tragic Event

In the aftermath of Taylor’s gruesome murder, his family released a statement expressing that knowing ‘someone’ is now in custody brings some degree of relief. However, they emphasized that it’s not just ‘someone’ but a group of individuals whose actions resulted in this horrific crime and need to be held accountable. The family further urged that until all those involved are caught, charged, and detained, their son’s death won’t be completely vindicated, and they won’t attain the closure they so desperately seek.

Aftermath and Road to Justice

Detailed information about the circumstances leading to the incident has not been made available immediately. The entire community is mourning this tragic event and waiting for justice to be served. As further information becomes available and the case progresses, any significant updates will be provided.

As his family, friends, and community members begin the long process of mourning the loss of this vibrant and promising young man, they remain hopeful. They hope that the pursuit of justice will mark the beginning of their healing journey. This fatherless journey is a painful reminder of the many lives senselessly lost due to gun violence.
