Alligator Spotted Sauntering on Myrtle Beach Coast, Leaving Beachgoers Stunned
As the morning sun rose over the sandy dunes of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the day seemed to mirror any other sun-soaked day on the coast. However, a strange sight left beachgoers stunned as an alligator made an unexpected appearance, casually strolling on the beach, offering an offbeat spectacle on Tuesday.
A Matter of Surprise
The strange sight of an alligator casually sauntering on the beach front was captured in a video sent to HERE News Network by vacationer Michelle Bindas. The recorded footage revealed the placid reptile meandering towards the ocean, eventually standing motionless as the waves softly tumbled against it.
“It was the most unusual thing I’ve ever witnessed—an alligator walking on a beach!”, Tom Bindas, Michelle’s husband, expressed in his conversation with HERE News. The couple were savouring the view from their hotel balcony when Tom noticed the lifeguard clearing the waters. As he looked closer, what initially seemed to be a shark turned out to be an alligator making its way to the shore.
Alligator, An Uncommon Sight
Tom Bindas managed to get astonishingly close to the reptile, standing just a few feet away, mesmerized by the unusual sight. “I thought it was enticing. Definitely one of the coolest sights,” he added further.
He continued to watch in fascination as the alligator took slow strolls along the beach before making its way to a storm drain. What followed was an attempt by the Myrtle Beach police to capture the creature. After unsuccessful attempts, Public Works stepped in to facilitate the capture by flushing out the drain, enabling officers to eventually safely capture the reptile.
Not So Uncommon After All
While the alligator’s presence drew the attention, marvel, and surprise of the beachgoers, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources clarified that alligator sightings on the beach were not uncommon, but indeed, this one had drawn an unusually large crowd.
Shaking off the novelty of the experience, Tom Bindas affirmed his resolve to continue enjoying his vacation, expressing, “I harbor no fear of fish or anything, so it’s not a big deal for me to get back into the water.”
