Dog, Bicycle & Umbrella Rules to Change After Labor Day in Myrtle Beach

In an update that will interest local and visiting beachgoers, Myrtle Beach will make changes to the rules governing dogs, bicycles, and umbrellas, effective after Labor Day. These adjustments aim to improve the beach experience for everyone, and all are advised to familiarize themselves with these changes.

New Rules for Dogs and Bicycles

Starting on the Tuesday following Labor Day, dogs and bicycles will be permitted on the beach at any time of the day. This marks a significant shift from the summer rules, which imposed restrictions on their presence during busier hours. Tent and canopy use will also be permitted, with size restrictions up to 12 by 12 square feet. This ensures that all beachgoers have adequate space to enjoy their time at the beach.

Umbrella Guidelines

Beachgoers planning to set up their space with an umbrella should take note of the revised positioning rules. Umbrellas must now be aligned with or set up behind the lifeguard posts. This is to ensure that lifeguards have an unobstructed view of the beach, enhancing safety measures for all present.

Existing Beach Regulations

While these changes will come into effect post Labor Day, a number of year-round rules remain in place that beachgoers should remember. These regulations include prohibitions on alcohol, glass containers and bottles, thong-style bathing suits, and disturbing or damaging the dunes, the sand fencing, or the sea grass oats. Additionally, swimming is not allowed within 75 yards of a pier and commercial activities are disallowed on the public beach. Any violation of these rules may invoke penalties, including fines up to $500 and/or 30 days in jail.

Respecting the Beach Environment

These new rules and the existing ones contribute to making the beach a safer and more enjoyable environment for all. It is vital for all beachgoers to respect these guidelines, the environment, and each other. The city encourages everyone to make use of the trash and recycling containers provided. In addition, holes deeper than two feet are prohibited to avoid causing harm or inconvenience to others. As always, swimmers have the right-of-way over surf fishing activities, with at least a 50-foot separation maintained from any swimmers.

All Set for a Great Beach Day

The newly amended rules post Labor Day are part of Myrtle Beach’s commitment to offering its residents and visitors a safe and enjoyable coastal experience. It is hoped that these alterations will provide clarity and enhance the overall beach environment for all. As always, everyone is urged to adhere to the rules and respect the beach, ensuring a pleasurable visit for all.

For any further information on the changes or the existing regulations, beachgoers can inquire with local authorities. The city looks forward to welcoming the public to Myrtle Beach to enjoy these changes post Labor Day.
