Penni Whiteside, who was last seen two years ago in the spring of 2022, was found in a tragic and shocking circumstance. Local police received information that her remains might be buried underneath a fire pit in the backyard of a Myrtle Beach home. After obtaining a search warrant, this tip led to a gruesome discovery on June 12 – Whiteside’s remains were discovered in the yard. Forensics confirmed the identity of the victim as 51-year-old Penni Whiteside.
Suspect Charged with Murder
Sheridan Fogle, a 54-year-old male, was arrested and charged with murder on Thursday, Aug. 29. Fogle was reportedly cohabiting with the victim before her disappearance. The relationship between the suspect and the victim was not clearly defined, but they were known to be living together. The murder charge was filed after the results of the victim’s autopsy were released by the coroner’s office but details remain confidential due to the ongoing investigation.
A Community in Shock
The shocking discovery has sent ripples through the Myrtle Beach community, with neighbors expressing disbelief and concern over the incident. Local resident, Nikolai Zaitsev, expressed his dismay, referencing the normally peaceful neighborhood, he said,
“I mean, you have kids playing at the park here every day, And birthday parties, weddings, et cetera that happen here,” and continued, “I’m sure nobody around here had a clue about what was actually going on.”
Investigation Ongoing
The Myrtle Beach Police Department declined to release further details on the matter due to the ongoing nature of the criminal investigation. The case continues to unfold, with Fogle expected to appear in court for a bond hearing on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 30.
Tribute to a Lost Life
In their official statement, authorities described Penni Whiteside’s death as a ‘tragic loss of life and a senseless act of violence’. They appealed for prayers, extending the community’s sympathies to the victim’s family and friends in these trying times, while also reassuring them and the wider community of justice.
The motive behind this heinous crime is under investigation and will hopefully be brought to light soon. Authorities are determined to bring justice for Penni and closure for her grieving family and friends.
