Myrtle Beach Women Charged in SNAP Fraud Cases
Well, folks, it looks like some of our Myrtle Beach neighbors may have gotten themselves into a bit of trouble. Three women from South Carolina, including one right here from our beloved coastal town, have been hit with charges related to stealing a hefty sum from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) is on the case, and it’s making headlines across the state.
Who are the ladies in question?
The women charged are Robyn Davis, 45, from Myrtle Beach; Sasha Price, 36, from Dillon County; and Erin Barber, 48, from Greenwood County. Interestingly enough, all three cases are unrelated. Still, they share a common thread of fraud that has shocked many in our community.
Robyn Davis: Forgery and fraud
Starting with Robyn Davis, she’s found herself in a heap of trouble. According to the details provided by DSS, between August 1, 2019, and July 31, 2022, Davis submitted seven SNAP applications. These applications included eight fraudulent pay stubs that falsely indicated she was raking in a cool $2,310 per paycheck. What’s more, she didn’t report additional commissions she was supposedly receiving from her employer. This sneaky behavior led to an overpayment of $15,816 in SNAP benefits!
For her actions, Davis has not only been charged with fraud but also with forgery. She was recently arrested and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center but made bail with a $105,000 bond later that same day. Talk about a stressful weekend!
Sasha Price: Misrepresentation of family
Next up is Sasha Price, who has been charged after submitting three SNAP application forms between December 1, 2021, and November 31, 2022. She claimed that her biological son was a member of her household, but here’s the twist—during that time, he was not even in her legal or physical custody. As a result, Price ended up with an overpayment of $10,217 in SNAP benefits. Ouch!
Erin Barber: Children’s custody confusion
Last, but certainly not least, we have Erin Barber. Between April 26, 2019, and September 30, 2023, Barber submitted eight SNAP applications. On six of these, she identified herself and her two biological children as part of her household, which sounds innocent enough, right? Well, it turns out that her kids were living with their biological father and attending school all the way in Rock Hill. This misrepresentation caused an overpayment of $21,455 in SNAP benefits. That’s quite a hefty sum!
The aftermath
As of now, Davis, Price, and Barber have been processed at their respective detention centers. Each case has sparked conversations around fraud and how essential programs like SNAP are meant to support those in genuine need. While these fraudulent claims are disappointing, it is a stark reminder for everyone to approach such services with honesty and integrity.
