A Greener Future for Homeless Pets
North Myrtle Beach has some exciting news buzzing around town! Our beloved Kind Keeper Animal Rescue is taking big steps to provide even better care for our furry friends. This amazing nonprofit has launched a multi-million-dollar project aimed at saving more homeless pets, and it shows just how much love and support there is in our community.
Big Changes Coming to Kind Keeper
So, what’s the scoop? Kind Keeper recently snagged a 10-plus acre property on Water Tower Road in Longs, which is just a short six-mile drive from their current location. Now, here’s where things get really interesting – as event coordinator Britney Hauser explains, “We’ll be able to hold at least three times the amount that we have total, that’s including our foster animals.” That’s right, folks! With this new space, they’re not just increasing capacity; they’re also improving the lives of so many animals.
Time for an Upgrade
Hauser shared that they’ve been working out of their current facility since 2015, which has its fair share of wear and tear. Believe it or not, the existing shelter used to be an old military barrack, and as you can imagine, it’s seen better days. “It’s on its last leg,” Hauser said. Now it’s time for an upgrade to a shiny new facility that can dream big and save even more pets.
No More “No” for Pets in Need
Currently, Kind Keeper has space for only around 50 animals. With a couple of pooches waiting outside and a full house inside, Hauser and her team often have to turn away animals in need. “We also have some in offices too, because we hate to say ‘no’ to people even though we have to,” she mentioned, which really tugs at the heartstrings. We all want to help, right?
Funding the Dream
Thanks to generous donations and fundraising efforts, the team has already raised over $500,000 to kickstart construction, but they’re not finished yet! They’re looking for more sponsorships and volunteers to help turn this dream into reality. “We’ll have offices, we’ll have an event space, we’ll have a veterinarian clinic, so people can get affordable spay and neuter,” Hauser explained. This is a game-changer for our community, where affordable vet services can be hard to come by!
Training Opportunities
One of the coolest features of the new facility will be a space to host in-house training for animals and their owners, which will definitely help enhance the bond between them. It’s like a little bootcamp for pets who need a bit more guidance, all while making sure they find forever homes.
