Myrtle Beach Community Celebrates the Life of Pat O’Donnell Hardwick

Conway was filled with love and warmth on October 18 as friends and family gathered to remember the amazing life of Patricia (Pat) O’Donnell Hardwick, who passed away at the age of 74 after a brief illness. For many in the area, Pat was more than just a beloved member of the community; she was a beacon of joy and laughter.

A Loving Journey Through Life

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Pat was raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, before her family made the lovely move to Myrtle Beach while she was in high school. It was here that she truly blossomed, ultimately graduating from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. During her university days, she even showcased her spirited side as a Chanticleer cheerleader.

Pat’s career as an accountant at Horry County Schools allowed her to shine bright. Her hard work, intellect, and friendly demeanor earned her the admiration of her colleagues. It was in this role that she also met the love of her life, Harrell Hardwick. The two tied the knot on October 24, 1981, and celebrated nearly 43 years of marriage, showing everyone around them what true soulmates look like.

The Heart of a Cheerful Spirit

Pat was well-known for her vibrant personality and undeniable sense of humor. A self-proclaimed jokester, she loved nothing more than to bring smiles to people’s faces. Halloween was her favorite time of year, and she would go all out to make it special for local kids, sometimes even convincing Harrell to don costumes alongside her – much to the delight of their neighbors.

But it wasn’t just Halloween that warmed Pat’s heart. Christmas held a special place in her life as well. She would pour her soul into decorating her home, crafting a festive atmosphere that her family and friends cherished deeply. The cozy, holiday vibes she created became a cherished tradition, leaving a lasting sprinkle of joy with every twinkling light.

A Proud Community Member and Believer

Faith and community were central to Pat’s life. For over 35 years, she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway. Pat found joy in the company of her fellow worshippers in the Faith Sunday School Class. More recently, she worshipped at North Conway Baptist Church, feeling especially proud of the youth ministry that positively impacted her grandchildren.

While her passing left a profound void, Pat’s legacy lives on through her family. Harrell, along with their three children, Trish Puett, Skip Baker, and Jennifer Grooms, as well as their grandchildren, have all been touched by her love. She is also survived by her brother, Mike O’Donnell, and many loving cousins and extended family members.

Farewell and Memorial

Visitation services were held on October 20 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, where many came together to share in the love and memories they all cherished. While the entombment at Hillcrest Cemetery was private, the energy of Pat’s community spirit echoed brightly through the hearts of everyone she touched.

In lieu of flowers, Pat’s family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the North Conway Baptist Church Student Ministry, furthering the values that meant so much to her.

Pat’s laughter, kindness, and spirited nature will be deeply missed, but her legacy will forever remain alive in the hearts and memories of all who knew her.
