Myrtle Beach Celebrates Veterans with Touching Annual Ceremony

Myrtle Beach Honors Veterans in Heartfelt Ceremony

Myrtle Beach is all about celebrating our heroes this week! On Monday, the city came together at the Robert H. Reed Recreation Center located in The Market Common, to honor those who served in the military during its annual Veterans Day Program. It was a touching occasion where community members paused to pay their respects to our brave troops, both past and present.

A Celebration of Sacrifice

The event was beautifully curated by the Military Appreciation Committee, which set the tone for a day filled with remembrance, gratitude, and camaraderie. Things kicked off with the presentation of colors, the national anthem, and the pledge of allegiance, creating an atmosphere of unity and reverence.

Words of Wisdom from a Veteran

The highlight of the day was the Veterans Day Address delivered by Captain Adrian Sawczuk, a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He candidly shared his journey, describing his service as both “challenging and humbling.” Captain Sawczuk fondly recalled his time as an artillery and signal officer during Operation Desert Storm, stating, “It was an experience both challenging and humbling, especially during operation Desert Storm.” His service from 1990 to 1998 earned him a well-deserved Bronze Star for his contributions.

In a poignant moment, Captain Sawczuk reminded everyone of our nation’s motto, “E Pluribus Unum”, or “out of many, one.” He articulated how being part of a close-knit team in the military fostered an indelible spirit of trust and cooperation that lasts a lifetime. “Working together united for a common cause, you learn to trust, to adapt, to overcome, and to lead,” he said. His words resonated with the audience, encapsulating the essence of military camaraderie.

A Touch of Creativity

Adding a splash of local flair, Captain Sawczuk mentioned that his experiences abroad inspired him to open his own business, Tidal Creek Brewery, showcasing how service influences civilian life in unexpected ways.

Poetic Tributes

In a touching addition to the ceremony, Bo Bryan, a local Poet Laureate, recited a beautiful piece that emphasized the crucial role Veterans play in our society. “Veterans are the foundation of power,” he remarked, pointing out the vital contributions these brave men and women have made to ensure our freedom and peace.

Remembering the Missing

One moving segment of the ceremony involved the setup of a “Missing Man Table,” a solemn tribute dedicated to recognizing military members who are unaccounted for. Members of Rolling Thunder SC Chapter 3 spoke about the significance of this table. “The slice of lemon on the plate reminds us of their bitter fate,” they said. The table also featured salt, signifying the tears of the families who wait for their loved ones, and a Bible that represents the faith that sustains those who are left behind.

Closing Ceremony

The event concluded with service songs that echoed through the hearts of all present, the laying of a wreath, and the haunting notes of “Taps,” honoring the valor of our service members.

This heartfelt ceremony was not just a celebration, but a reminder of the sacrifices made by our military. Myrtle Beach truly showcased its spirit of community and gratitude this Veterans Day. As we continue to enjoy the bustling energy and beauty of this city, let’s remember to carry the lessons learned from our Veterans into our everyday lives.
