Arrest Made in Waffle House Attack in Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach, S.C. – An episode of violence that shocked the community of Myrtle Beach last month has now resulted in an arrest. A 25-year-old man, Michael Petty, accused of attacking an employee at a local Waffle House, was apprehended by Myrtle Beach police on Sunday, according to documents obtained by HERE News Network.
Charges Against the Suspect
Petty is facing multiple charges in connection to the event, including assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The Incident
As per the detailed report, the event unfolded at a Waffle House on Frontage Road on June 2. The arriving officer noticed signs of struggle inside the premises, including a broken liquor bottle. There were also traces of blood inside the restaurant and in the adjacent parking area.
According to an account by a server, a customer identified as Petty became aggressive upon confronting him about consuming alcohol inside the premises. Petty allegedly began smoking a cigar, which was promptly taken by the server and placed on the counter. This action seemingly triggered Petty to leap across a booth and chase the server to the back storage area where he brandished a knife and physically attacked her.
The victim reportedly fell due to the unexpected assault, followed by Petty allegedly kicking her in the head and neck area. Although a knife was involved in the attack, reports state that the victim was not cut during the altercation. Another individual at the scene reported that Petty also attempted to stab her.
Additional Victim
Reports further relayed information about an intervening friend of Petty’s who tried to quell the assault but ended up with a cut on the right thigh. This intervention allegedly caused a trail of blood inside the restaurant. A subsequent document obtained by HERE News Network revealed that a man with a slash wound on his leg appeared alone at a nearby hospital.
Suspect Arrest and Bond
Details regarding the circumstances leading to Petty’s arrest on Sunday remained sparse. However, online records indicate that he is currently detained at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a bond set around $20,000.
