The auction follows a vote from timeshare owners favoring the sale, aiming to resolve outstanding debts and provide some hope for affected families. Longtime visitors express sadness over the resort’s closure, while others remain optimistic for its future. The auction represents a pivotal moment in the resort’s history, as it hasn’t been sold since 1969.

Myrtle Beach, SC – The Beach House Golf and Racquet Club, a popular resort located on the oceanfront, is set to be auctioned after abruptly closing in 2023 due to significant structural issues. The auction commences with a current bid starting at $700,000, far below the estimated $3 million needed for repairs on the building.

The closure of the resort has impacted many timeshare owners, who were presented with options following the shutdown. They could either accept a $250 buyout, transfer their deeds, or participate in voting on the resort’s future. In March, a majority of timeshare owners opted for the sale of the property, paving the way for the current auction process.

In a communication to the timeshare owners, it was confirmed that all outstanding debts would be settled once the property is sold. Any remaining funds from the sale will be distributed among those timeshare owners who are up-to-date on their maintenance fees, which provides some hope for those affected by the resorts’ abrupt closure.

The Beach House, which has been a cherished vacation spot for many families, has seen longtime visitors like Cindy and Glen Caeele, who have spent 30 years vacationing there. Their experiences at the resort, which included family gatherings and games such as corn hole on the lawn, have created lasting memories. They expressed deep sadness over the closure and the loss of the community bonds formed at the Beach House.

Another dedicated visitor, Sheila Franklin, whose family has frequented the Beach House for 40 years, is hopeful regarding the property’s future. She is eager to see financial returns from the sale that could support future vacations and foster new traditions with families they have befriended over the years. Franklin remains optimistic that future owners may reopen the Beach House, allowing new memories to be made.

The management of the Beach House Golf and Racquet Club changed in October when a new management company took over oversight of the property and is now managing the auction process. Currently, the resort remains closed to the public and is not accepting any reservations due to safety reasons associated with the structural concerns.

According to commercial property listings, the building spans a total of 29,422 square feet and features appealing oceanfront views along with extended-stay style amenities, making it a desirable investment for potential buyers. Notably, the last recorded sale of the property dates back to December 31, 1969, making this auction an unprecedented event in the resort’s long history.

As the clock ticks down to the auction date, the fate of the Beach House Golf and Racquet Club remains uncertain. The community of timeshare owners watches closely, hoping for a resolution that honors the spirit of what the Beach House has represented for so many over the decades.
