Chapin’s Mobile Library Makes Its Debut in Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach– As part of an innovative initiative, the Chapin Memorial Library has outfitted a vehicle into a fully functional mobile library that made its first stop in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday. Touring throughout the city of Myrtle Beach, this latest addition to the library’s services helps ensure that everyone from kids to adults has equal access to more than 900 titles, audiobooks, and movies.
Convenience at Your Doorstep
The mobile library made its inaugural stop at the Clair Chapin Epps YMCA. Visitors to the mobile library can sign up for a library card, use the onboard computers and WiFi, and even print up to 10 pages free of charge. Any held items can be requested to be brought along with the mobile library when it is scheduled to make stops near you. It embodies convenience at your doorstep, presenting a viable solution for those within the community who may not have easy access to transportation or time to visit a stationary library.
Bringing Library Services to the Community
Jerilynn Derhammer, the operator of the mobile library, spoke passionately about its importance, expressing, “Not everybody has access to a vehicle or even to be able to get to the library, so we want to be able to go out into the community. Underserved or you just don’t have time, we’ll come to you.”
Upcoming stopovers include Withers Swash Park in Myrtle Beach from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and the International Culinary Institute between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday. Active updates regarding their schedule and inquiries on requesting a stop can be done through the Mobile Library/Outreach department.
Expanding Access to Education and Culture
This new concept amplifies the idea of a library as more than just a repository of books. It becomes a hub of connectivity for the community—an institution on wheels—that brings knowledge and multimedia learning experiences right to people’s neighborhoods. As a result, this revolutionary move by Chapin Memorial Library can bridge the gap by ensuring the community is well-served, even in far-going areas.
Rolling Towards the Future
Chapin’s mobile library brings a fresh definition to the role of libraries in our communities. It signifies a step forward in making education, literature, and technology more accessible and inclusive and serves as an inspiration for other cities and libraries worldwide who aim to reach out to every corner of their community, regardless of mobility constraints.
As Chapin’s Mobile Library continues on its citywide tour, it serves as a reminder of the infinite possibilities of what a library can be—a gateway to knowledge, entertainment, and opportunities, always available and just around the corner.
