Excitement in Myrtle Beach as Clemson Men’s Golf Team Kicks off New Season!

As the sun rises over Myrtle Beach, excitement is in the air for the Clemson Men’s Golf Team as they gear up to open their season at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. From September 7-9, the prestigious tournament, hosted at the stunning Grande Dunes Golf Resort, will mark a thrilling beginning for the team and fans alike.

Back to South Carolina After So Long!

For the first time since the 1997-98 academic year, Clemson will kick off its season right here in South Carolina! It’s always exciting when a sports team gets to play in their home state, and with several teams from various regions competing, the atmosphere promises to be electric.

A Diverse and Talented Lineup

Clemson’s roster boasts a mix of experience and fresh talent. Leading the way are seniors Thomas Higgins and Lucas Augustsson, the only two upperclassmen on the team, who are ready to take charge in the tournament. With their leadership, the team looks to thrive during this first competition.

Also part of the lineup is junior Oscar Holm-Bredkjaer, who has some impressive accolades under his belt. Recently transferring from the University of San Francisco, Holm-Bredkjaer earned an honorable mention in the All-West Coast Conference last year and has notched three top-10 finishes in tournaments. His recent performance is remarkable, having played under par in eight out of his last nine rounds!

Rising Stars in the Lineup

The sophomore duo of Rich Wills and Colin Salema is also eager to showcase their skills this season. Wills averaged a competitive 73.19 last year while Salema showed promising abilities over the summer with a win in the Carolinas Open and a runner-up finish at the Monroe Amateur.

Meanwhile, senior Lucas Augustsson, with a stroke average of 72.48, stands out as a consistent performer, showing he can secure a place among the top finishers with a third-place finish at the Palmetto tournament last season.

New Faces on the Team: Freshman Jackson Byrd

Adding to the excitement is newcomer Jackson Byrd, who will compete individually. Byrd is carrying on a legacy; he is the son of former Clemson All-American Jonathan Byrd and is already making headlines with a first-team AJGA All-American recognition and participation in both the Junior Ryder Cup and Junior President’s Cup over the past couple of years.

A Comprehensive Fall Schedule Awaiting

As the team eyes success at the Myrtle Beach Tournament, they have an ambitious schedule ahead. It features nine regular season tournaments, including six exciting new events. Teams will take their skills across seven states, covering three in South Carolina, two in Florida, and one each in Tennessee, Wisconsin, California, Georgia, and West Virginia. A particularly notable match takes place at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, which will host a regular-season tournament for the first time!

What Lies Ahead

Clemson’s fall schedule looks promising, with key matches in Myrtle Beach, Chattanooga, Columbia, Milwaukee, and Alpharetta. The spring brings more thrilling competitions, including stops in La Quinta, Jacksonville, and Mt. Pleasant, culminating in the ACC Tournament in scenic Panama City, Florida.

As we countdown to the opening rounds this weekend, let’s rally behind the Clemson Men’s Golf Team as they embark on another exciting season! The first tee-off is just around the corner, and it’s sure to be a spectacular showcase of talent and teamwork. Go Tigers!
