News Summary

The College World Series kicks off at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, featuring eight teams including national seeds Arkansas and Coastal Carolina. This year’s tournament showcases a diverse field from various conferences, with teams like Murray State competing for their first CWS title. Arkansas leads with a strong record, while other teams like Oregon State and Arizona aim for glory after impressive super regional performances. The double-elimination format ensures thrilling matchups as teams battle for college baseball’s ultimate prize.

Omaha, Nebraska – The 2025 College World Series (CWS) is set to begin on June 13 at Charles Schwab Field with eight teams vying for the coveted title. The tournament follows the conclusion of the super regional round on June 9, where Murray State secured its first-ever CWS berth by defeating Duke 5-4. This year’s event showcases a shift in representation, featuring participants from seven different conferences, a contrast to the previous year’s CWS that was dominated by teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Of the eight teams making it to Omaha, five are national seeds. No. 3 Arkansas leads these seeds, with aspirations of capturing its first CWS championship after a dominant season record of 48-13. The tournament format is double-elimination, meaning teams must lose twice to be eliminated, culminating in a best-of-three championship series scheduled to start on June 21. The series could wrap up on either June 22 or 23, depending on the outcomes of the games.

The tournament will kick off with four games, where winners will face each other, and losing teams will compete to avoid elimination. Notably, the bracket does not re-seed; thus, the highest seeds will encounter each other instead of facing the lowest seeds. As part of this year’s collection of teams, eight schools will compete with following season records: Arizona (44-19), Arkansas (48-13), Coastal Carolina (53-11), Louisville (40-22), LSU (48-15), Murray State (44-15), Oregon State (47-14-1), and UCLA (47-16).

This year’s CWS offers a diverse field of participants. Oregon State stands out as it competes as an independent this year following the dissolution of the Pac-12 conference. The Beavers secured their Omaha ticket by defeating Florida State in the super regional, marking their eighth trip to the College World Series. Meanwhile, Arizona had an impressive comeback against North Carolina, overcoming a significant 18-2 loss in their first game in the super regional to ultimately win the series.

Other notable achievements leading to Omaha include Coastal Carolina, who finished the Sun Belt Conference tournament undefeated, and defeated the No. 4 national seed Auburn to reach the CWS. Louisville pulled off an upset against the No. 1 national seed Vanderbilt before defeating Miami in their super regional. LSU advanced with a sweep over the Clemson Regional champion, West Virginia.

The 2025 NCAA tournament began back in late May with 64 teams and has steadily progressed through the various regionals and super regionals to arrive at the final eight competing teams. Charles Schwab Field will be the setting for what promises to be an exciting and competitive series of games as teams strive for college baseball’s ultimate prize.
