Old Orchard Beach, Maine: A Community Mourns the Loss of Diane E. Pizzo

A cherished member of the Old Orchard Beach community, Diane Ellen Pizzo, has passed away at the age of 88 on January 3, 2026. Surrounded by her beloved children, Diane took her final breaths peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.

A Life of Love and Dedication

Born in South Portland, Maine, on February 2, 1937, to George F. Jr. and Agnes (Papazian) Meserve, Diane grew up with a strong sense of family and community. She attended South Portland High School, graduating in 1955 before embarking on her professional journey as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Company. Later on, she dedicated her career to Verizon, retiring after many years of loyal service.

Find Love on the Dance Floor

In an unexpected turn of fate, Diane met her husband, John, at a lively Halloween dance. Sparks flew as he donned a pair of striking white pants and blue suede shoes, while Diane made a statement in her poodle skirt. Their love blossomed, and they tied the knot on November 30, 1957, building a life and family together in Westbrook, Maine.

Family and Adventures

Diane and John nurtured their three children in a warm and loving home. They enjoyed numerous family outings, casino trips, and were keen golf enthusiasts. Their adventures included memorable trips to Myrtle Beach and the beautiful landscapes of Prince Edward Island (PEI). Diane’s life with John was filled with fun, laughter, and exploration.

A New Chapter

After John’s passing in 2010, Diane faced the world with the same strength and grace that had defined her life. She found companionship in her dog, Buddy, living in Old Orchard Beach. One of her favorite pastimes was taking Buddy for drives to the stunning beaches of southern Maine, where she could soak in the beauty of her surroundings.

Celebrating Family Traditions

Diane was known for her love of family gatherings, often bringing everyone together for celebrations that featured delicious food and afternoon cocktails. Her spirit and dedication to her family made her a vital part of their lives, and she inspired everyone around her to cherish their loved ones.

A Community Remembers

Those who knew Diane described her as fiercely independent and private, yet always exuding warmth and kindness. Her unwavering loyalty and devotion to family were qualities that left a lasting impression. Diane is survived by her son, Kevin Pizzo (wife Amanda Cutler), daughters Sandy Driscoll (partner John O’Leary) and Beth Pizzo (partner Mike Fennessy), along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry on her legacy.

Gratitude and Farewell

The family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fallbrook Commons for their compassionate care during Diane’s final months. Visiting hours are scheduled for January 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dolby, Blais, Segee Funeral Home in Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Portland, with Diane’s interment taking place later in the spring at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.

A Lasting Legacy

Diane E. Pizzo may have passed, but she will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Her family takes solace in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with John and Buddy, watching over them from above.
