Lottery ticket for the Powerball jackpot

Fredericksburg, Texas, September 15, 2025

News Summary

Two winning tickets, one from Fredericksburg, Texas, and the other from St. Louis, Missouri, have matched all numbers in a historic Powerball drawing, sharing a jackpot of $1.787 billion. The winners can claim their prizes in person at their respective lottery headquarters and choose between an annuity or lump-sum payment. The store selling the winning ticket in Texas will receive a retailer bonus, while Missouri’s bonus remains undisclosed. The drawing broke a jackpot drought and marked a significant event in lottery history.

Fredericksburg, Texas — Two winning tickets that matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Sept. 6, 2025, Powerball drawing will share an astounding jackpot of $1.787 billion, the second-largest prize in U.S. history. The winning numbers for this drawing were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, with the Powerball number being 17.

One of the winning tickets was purchased at Big’s 103 gas station and convenience store in Fredericksburg, Texas, while the other was sold at a QuikTrip gas station in St. Louis, Missouri. Both winners have until March 5, 2025, to claim their prizes, which must be done in person at their respective state lottery headquarters.

Winners have the option to receive their share of the jackpot either as an annuity of $893.5 million paid out over 30 years or a lump-sum payment of $410.3 million. Lottery officials in Texas have reported that the store where the winning ticket was sold will receive a $250,000 retailer bonus, while the bonus for the Missouri retailer has not yet been disclosed.

As of yet, neither winner has come forward, nearly a week after the drawing took place. The verification process for winners is expected to take anywhere from several weeks to a full month. This drawing ended a jackpot drought that persisted since May 31, 2025, during which no winning tickets had been sold since a previous jackpot reached $1.4 billion.

Notably, this is the first time Missouri has made the “billion-dollar lottery prize winners” list. The only jackpot larger than the current one was the record-setting $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in California on November 7, 2022. Players interested in claiming their prizes must do so within 180 days (six months) of the drawing date.

Lottery players face a significant challenge in winning, with the odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot sitting at roughly 1 in 292.2 million. Following the recent flooding in Kerrville, Texas, there is a community sentiment hoping the winner may be a local resident in need. The store manager expressed optimism about the possibility of a community member being the winner.

Prior to this jackpot, the amount had reset to $20 million following previous rollovers. The Texas Lottery has emphasized the role of lottery ticket sales in supporting local community projects and initiatives.

This historic jackpot marks the 13th occasion in which a lottery jackpot has crossed the billion-dollar threshold in the United States. Given the colossal magnitude of this prize, it is a significant event for lottery players and retailers alike.
