Greenville, Illinois, Mourns the Loss of a Local Legend

On November 7, 2025, the town of Greenville was hit with heartbreaking news: David Michael “Fuzz” Branscome, a cherished outdoorsman and community member, passed away while enjoying the great outdoors with his beloved black Labrador, Bella. Fuzz, known for his warm heart and steadfast friendship, was just shy of his 60th birthday, which would have been on November 23.

A Life Well-Lived

Born in Wichita, Kansas, Fuzz was the son of the late Fred “Kirby” Branscome and Elaine Ann Huber Branscome. His early years were spent moving around due to his father’s service in the United States Air Force, residing in places like Alexandria, Louisiana, and Columbus, Ohio. The family finally settled down in Greenville, Illinois, in 1977, and that’s when Fuzz truly found his roots.

Fuzz graduated from Greenville High School in 1984 and was affectionately nicknamed “Fuzz” by friends and family. While he carried many interests throughout his life, his love for farming began during childhood visits to his grandfather’s farm. This passion for the land and nature continued to shape his life, giving him a character that resonated with everyone around him.

A Career Steeped in Nature

Fuzz’s professional journey included a stint in maintenance at the Sea Gull Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His adventurous spirit didn’t stop there; he later moved to Tennessee, where he worked on the ranch of country music star Gretchen Wilson. After a fulfilling career, he returned to Bond County, Illinois, where he remained until his passing.

A True Community Member

Fuzz was more than just a hard worker; he was a beloved fixture in the community. He was an active member of the Rod and Gun Club in Greenville, where he formed lasting friendships and shared his love of the outdoors with fellow enthusiasts. His warmth and easygoing nature were infectious, making him a friend to many and someone who will be missed dearly.

Survived by Family

Fuzz is survived by his mother, Elaine Branscome, his brother, Dale (Jo) Branscome, and his beloved nephews, Kort Kirby (Liz) Branscome and Kaleb Michael Branscome. He was preceded in death by his father, Kirby Branscome. The Branscome family has always been a part of the fabric of Greenville, and that legacy will continue through Fuzz’s cherished memories.

Final Arrangements

Arrangements for Fuzz’s memorial are being handled by Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest next to his parents at Brown Cemetery, a final tribute to the family bond that was so important to him.

Remembering Fuzz

Fuzz Branscome will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His kindness, love for farming, and passion for the outdoors have left an indelible mark on the community. For those wishing to honor his legacy, memorial contributions can be made to Elaine Branscome at Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home, located at 203 West Oak, Greenville, Illinois. Online giving is also available at donnellwiegand.com. While he may no longer be with us, Fuzz’s spirit will forever remain a part of this vibrant community.
