Myrtle Beach Welcomes High Point University Men’s Golf Team for Season Opener

The beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina played host to the High Point University men’s golf team as they kicked off their season with a competitive tournament at the stunning Grande Dunes Golf Resort. This year’s event wrapped up on September 9, 2025, and the team left all they had on the course!

A Dive into the Tournament Results

The High Point squad finished the tournament in 13th place out of a tough field of 16 teams, concluding with a total score of 879, which places them at just +4 over par. While the final ranking might not be what they were hoping for, plenty of highlights emerged from individual performances, showcasing some impressive talent.

Highlight of the Day: Carter Pitcairn’s Incredible Hole-in-One

The star of the day was undoubtedly Carter Pitcairn, who delivered a stunning performance on the final day of the tournament. He secured a spot in the top ten, finishing in 8th place overall with a remarkable total of -5 (211). But what truly stole the spotlight was his first collegiate hole-in-one on the eighth hole during round three, hitting an incredible 8-iron shot from 184 yards. This ace helped him achieve a personal best with a score of 7-under-par 65 for that round, marking it as the second-lowest third round score in the program’s history!

Strong Contributions from Team Members

Not to be outdone, Burch Harrison put together a solid performance that earned him a tie for 33rd place overall, finishing with a total of +1 (217). His best moment came on the final day upholding a 1-under-par score of 71, where he also tallied a total of 10 birdies throughout the tournament, five of which were made in his final round.

Tully Super contributed to the team effort by finishing in 66th place with a score of +9 (225). He started the tournament strong, breaking even in his first round, and wrapped things up with a total of nine birdies to his name. His perseverance showed throughout his rounds, holding his head high amid the competition.

Meanwhile, Shlok Jain and Jay Smith fought valiantly, wrapping up the tournament in 79th and 81st place respectively. Jain finished with a total score of +13 (229), while Smith ended his competition with a +15 (231). The determination and spirit these players exhibited are commendable, especially as they work to improve their games for the rest of the season.

Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead

Though the High Point University men’s golf team finished in the lower half of the standings, they left Myrtle Beach with invaluable experience and lessons learned. The thrill of competition, the beauty of the Grande Dunes Golf Resort, and the camaraderie among teammates surely made this season opener memorable.

As the players return to practice and gear up for the upcoming tournaments, there’s a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Who wouldn’t be thrilled about the potential for even greater scores and perhaps a few more thrilling moments, like Pitcairn’s hole-in-one?

The team is eager to take the lessons and energy from this tournament and turn it into future success. One thing is for sure: They are ready to swing their way into the next challenge!
