Mike Frederick appointed as Executive Director of Safety and Security

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — As the dawn of a new academic year looms, Horry County Schools welcomes a fresh face to head the district’s safety and security. Mike Frederick, a seasoned law enforcement professional, has been appointed as the district’s new Executive Director of Safety and Security. This announcement comes as the district makes significant strides to enhance safety and security across its campuses.

An Experienced Hand in Law Enforcement

Frederick, boasting more than 30 years of professional experience in law enforcement and public safety, will bring to the school district expansive knowledge and experience. Prior to this appointment, he served for ten years as the Chief of Law Enforcement for the South Carolina Public Service Authority. Frederick was also previously the Police Chief in the Town of Surfside Beach, during which he demonstrated substantial leadership and commitment to maintaining public safety.

Academic Credentials

In addition to his impressive work history, Frederick holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the revered University of South Carolina. He also stands as a proud graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, affirming his credentials and suitability for his new role.
