Lexington Mourns the Passing of Beloved Resident Matthew Ryan “Matt” Christman

In a sad turn of events, the vibrant city of Lexington, Kentucky is grieving the loss of one of its cherished residents, Matthew Ryan “Matt” Christman. Born on May 31, 1983, in Madison, Indiana, Matt captivated the hearts of many throughout his 42 years of life, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and joyful memories. He passed away on December 13, 2025, at 3:05 a.m.

A Journey Through Life

Raised in the rolling hills of Switzerland County, Indiana, Matt was the son of Kevin Wayne Christman and Deborah Lynn “Debbie” (Meisberger) Allen. From an early age, he showed a knack for sports, especially golf, which later became a cornerstone of his life. After graduating from Switzerland County High School in 2001, where he excelled both academically and athletically, he pursued his passion further at the prestigious Golf Academy in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, earning an associate’s degree.

Matt launched his professional career in the golf industry, initially working as an assistant golf professional at the picturesque Mountain Home Golf Course in Mountain Home, Arkansas. His journey would take him back to Indiana, where he contributed his talents to the pro shop at the Coyote Crossing Golf Club in Lafayette. Besides his passion for golf, Matt had a flair for jewelry design, discovering new interests while working for Vierk’s Fine Jewelry in Lafayette.

A Life of Passion and Community

Family was always close to Matt’s heart. From 2007 to 2018, he farmed alongside his father on Christman Farms in Switzerland County, Indiana, and Carroll County, Kentucky. This commitment to agriculture highlighted the importance of tradition and community in his life.

Guided by the values instilled in him, Matt grew up attending the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana, which played a significant role in his upbringing and introduced him to lasting friendships. Beyond his professional interests, Matt was a devoted sports fan, passionately supporting teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Kentucky Wildcats.

A Loving Family Man

Matt’s greatest joy in life, however, was being a husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica “Jessi” (McGinnis) Christman, and his precious son, Connor Christman, both of Lexington. Together, they created countless beautiful memories, whether playing baseball, sharing baseball outings, or building extraordinary Lego cities. Matt had a special bond with Connor and loved teaching him virtual golf.

In addition to his immediate family, Matt is survived by his mother and step-father, Deborah Lynn “Debbie” (Meisberger) Allen and Bert, of Vevay, IN; his father, Kevin Wayne Christman of Madison, IN; and his half-siblings, Tyler and Bethany Christman. He also leaves behind maternal grandmother M. Maxine (Haas) Meisberger of Madison, IN, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his brother, Nate Christman, who passed away on September 3, 2017, along with several grandparents.

A Celebration of Life

The community is invited to come together to honor Matt’s life. A visitation is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on December 20, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, Indiana. Following the visitation, a heartfelt Celebration of Matt’s Life will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. As part of his farewell, inurnment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison, Indiana.

In memory of Matt, contributions can be made to the Nathan and Matthew Christman’s Golf Scholarship Fund Account through Friendship State Bank, helping future generations of golfers achieve their dreams.

As the community of Lexington embraces the cherished memories of Matthew Ryan “Matt” Christman, his spirit will undoubtedly continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
