NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Unusual weather activity on Monday led to lightning strikes damaging two homes in North Myrtle Beach, according to local officials. The strikes, which occurred overnight, resulted in considerable damage but no injuries, evidence of nature’s unpredictable might.

First Incident at Cooper Creek Loop

The initial incident took place in the 2400 block of Cooper Creek Loop. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene and discovered smoke filtering from the first floor and attic area of the residence. Thankfully, residents had been safely evacuated, and all were accounted for when the team arrived.

The responders found no active fire but stayed to manage and overhaul the affected areas, ensuring no smoldering remnants were left to reignite. The apparent lightning strike was said to have severely damaged parts of the attic and disrupted electrical circuits, rendering the dwelling uninhabitable till repairs are made.

Second Lightning Strike Causes Further Damage

Shortly after this incident, crews were dispatched to another house on Leatherleaf Drive. Preliminary investigations revealed telltale signs of another lightning strike, this one having compromised a gas line on the residence. Observations from the scene indicated visible charring and smoldering, particularly around the area where the gas line entered the dwelling’s attic.

The team made sure the situation was safe by checking for residual heat signatures and verifying no remaining smoldering parts. The immediate danger was eliminated, and the site was subsequently cleared.

The incidents in North Myrtle Beach come on the heels of unpredictable weather patterns leading to overnight storms in Grand Strand, causing loss of power for many residents. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in any of the incidents, putting the local emergency services and community at ease.

It is imperative for residents to remain informed about weather forecasts, particularly during storm season, and know how to react in emergency situations. This can considerably minimize property damages and ensure personal safety.

The local officials, firefighters, and emergency teams’ timely response has helped prevent further damages and potential harm. The citizens are advised to dial emergency services immediately at the sign of smoke, fire, or any strange occurrences during weather anomalies.

Once the site was cleared and the residents secured, herein ended the local department’s engagement with the discussed incidents. Stay tuned to HERE News Network for more updates on this story and other regional news.
