Exciting New Beginnings: Monisha Hickman Celebrates Homeownership in Conway
Conway, SC has been buzzing with joy lately as local resident Monisha Hickman has officially become a homeowner! It was a heartwarming scene on Friday, October 18, as friends, family, and folks from Habitat for Humanity gathered on Turtle Drive to celebrate this incredible milestone. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, excitement, and, let’s be honest, a few happy tears!
A Dream Come True
Monisha, who is gearing up to celebrate her 30th birthday this December, had set a personal goal to own a home before reaching this big milestone. “I am excited,” Monisha said with a bright smile, “I’m just hoping that I accomplish this something new.” After putting in two years of dedicated work towards her dream, she cut the ribbon to her brand-new two-bedroom, two-bathroom home.
In addition to her thrilling role as a new homeowner, Monisha works as the memory care clinical manager at Portside at Grant Dunes, an assisted living facility. Balancing her job while also completing 300 equity hours with Habitat for Humanity, which included helping out in construction and working at their retail store, wasn’t a walk in the park. But Monisha made it happen, proving just how determined she is!
Community Support Shines Bright
The day was made even more special thanks to the amazing support from her community. Monisha received a generous boost from Publix, which contributed $50,000 toward her home purchase. Many Publix employees even attended the celebration to cheer her on. “I’m really grateful for Publix,” Monisha said, “Especially since I love shopping there and their fruit is the best!”
Other generous donations also came from various sources, including the government, Well Springs Church, which gifted a laptop, and Food Lion, which provided a gift card to help stock her new kitchen. Add in some lawn equipment from Lowes and a welcome basket filled with essential items from Palmetto Academy of Learning and Success, and it’s clear that Monisha is all set for her new chapter!
Finding Strength in Faith
One of the most touching moments of the ceremony was when Charles Hickman read a special Bible verse from Isaiah 41:10, which says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand.” This uplifting moment symbolized the strong foundation of faith and support surrounding Monisha as she begins this exciting journey.
The Future of Habitat for Humanity
Sarah Moniz, the president of the Habitat Board of Directors, shared exciting news about the future of Habitat for Humanity. Currently, they are working to build seven homes a year in Horry County, but with the pressing need for affordable housing, they aim to double that number to fourteen homes per year over the next five years. It’s a huge step forward to ensure families like Monisha’s can find their own piece of the American Dream!
Celebration and Community
After the ceremony, everyone gathered for a wonderful lunch, celebrating not just Monisha’s achievement, but the amazing community spirit that made it happen. Monisha herself is all about family and fun. In her spare time, she loves dancing, outdoor cookouts, and of course, singing! Who knows, maybe we’ll catch her belting out a tune from her new front porch sometime soon!
This touching celebration is a perfect reminder of the incredible things that happen when a caring community comes together. Cheers to Monisha, her new home, and the bright future ahead!
