Giant octopus sculpture in a backyard filled with memorabilia.

Myrtle Beach, September 8, 2025

News Summary

Alan and Lisa Jones, residents of Myrtle Beach’s Grande Dunes area, have created an eclectic collection of memorabilia, including a giant octopus named Ruby, formerly a key attraction at Adventure Falls Golf. Their collection not only showcases their love for unique items but also preserves local history with pieces from the now-demolished Myrtle Square Mall. As they restore Ruby, they aim to invite families to enjoy their quirky collection while giving back to the community.

Myrtle Beach Couple Expands Eclectic Collection with Iconic Memorabilia

Living in the picturesque Grande Dunes area of Myrtle Beach, Alan and Lisa Jones have turned their home into a treasure trove, bursting at the seams with memorabilia that embodies both nostalgia and a fun-loving spirit. From movies and TV shows to Marvel superheroes and extraordinary decor, their collection showcases their shared passion for the unique and unusual.

A Backyard Menagerie

One glance at their backyard, and you’ll spot a giant giraffe standing tall, a testament to Alan’s flair for collecting eclectic items. While Lisa might tease him about some of his choices, there’s no denying that their home is filled with whimsy and charm. But that’s not all; they have also taken it upon themselves to preserve local history with a special piece of the Myrtle Beach community—the large number “2” from the now-demolished Myrtle Square Mall clock.

A Piece of Community History

Hanging prominently in their living room, this iconic number served as a well-known meeting point for shoppers who would often use the phrase “meet me under the 2.” Alan initially sought to acquire the “No. 10” to surprise Lisa, recalling her childhood memories associated with that exact spot, but discovered it had already found a new home.

Rescuing Ruby the Giant Octopus

In an exciting recent development, Alan and Lisa have added a show-stopping piece to their collection—a giant octopus named Ruby! This stunning creature was previously a beloved fixture at the now-closed Adventure Falls Golf mini golf course, which waved farewell in September 2023 after over 30 years of entertaining families. It was a bittersweet moment, but the Joneses swooped in to rescue Ruby, relocating her to their sprawling 24-acre farm.

Restoration and Installation Challenges

Currently undergoing restoration, Ruby is a massive sculpture that required intricate dismantling to transport each piece carefully. Restoration workers are busy painting Ruby’s vibrant tentacles, each tipping the scales at roughly 500 pounds. However, the couple faces challenges as they plan for Ruby to transition from dismantled pieces to a cohesive artwork submerged partly in their pond, while ensuring it is visible from the road for spectators.

Nostalgia and Family Fun Await

Ruby will stand proudly at a depth of 6 feet underwater, with a noticeable height of 15 feet above the surface. This addition to their property symbolizes a blend of nostalgia and love for their hometown, as Lisa fondly remembers the octopus from her childhood visits to the mini golf course.

Once Ruby’s restoration is complete, the Joneses are excited to invite families and children to their farm for a chance to see this fantastic sculpture along with their other unique memorabilia.

A Financial Journey That Turned into a Dream

The path to their whimsical collection started with challenges. Growing up in poverty, Alan spent much of his childhood dreaming of owning collectibles that sparked joy. With a successful venture in Wholesale Holiday Rentals in Myrtle Beach, he and Lisa have finally found the financial stability to make those childhood dreams come true.

Giving Back to the Community

Alan emphasizes that his passion for collecting isn’t driven by prestige; rather, he aims to share these treasures with the community and to give back to local charities. Their impressive collection includes animatronic characters, replica dinosaurs, and a plethora of quirky creatures from local attractions.

A Vision for the Future

With visions of sharing their extensive collection with future generations and creating a space where community members can experience the joy of their eclectic finds, the Joneses continue to spread happiness through their unique home in Myrtle Beach.
