Myrtle Beach Community Bids Farewell to Sherri Davenport Crawford
The vibrant city of Myrtle Beach is coming together to honor the remarkable life of Sherri Davenport Crawford, a beloved marketing coordinator and passionate philanthropist, who sadly passed away on August 2, 2025. Surrounded by her loved ones, Sherri’s departure marks a deep loss for all who knew her.
A Life Full of Smiles and Memories
Sherri was born on May 11, 1965, in the scenic town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where she was raised by her loving parents, Billy and Marilyn Davenport. She was the cherished younger sister of Scott Davenport, and the two shared countless joyful childhood moments, forming the foundation of a lifetime of treasured memories.
After finishing high school, Sherri set her sights on East Tennessee State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Her college years were filled with lasting friendships, especially through her involvement with the Phi Mu Sorority. It was during this time that Sherri began to blossom into the warm-hearted and charismatic person that so many came to adore.
Career Journey
Sherri took her first steps into the professional world as the Regional Manager for Eagle’s Eye Sweater Company, overseeing a vast territory spanning seven states, including the beautiful shores of Hawaii. Yet, her longing for home drew her back to her roots, and she transitioned to Tanger Outlets in retail management. Her journey took her through the bustling cities of Tennessee, Greensboro, Atlanta, and finally landing in Myrtle Beach in 2002.
With a passion for the golf industry, Sherri achieved recognition as the Director of Marketing for the Classic Golf Group and as Golf Director. In April 2018, she embraced a new challenge as the Marketing Coordinator for Chesapeake Homes, where she made a significant impact on the marketing team.
A Love Story
In her personal life, Sherri found love with her husband David Crawford, just three months after her move to Myrtle Beach. Their bond was filled with adventures, from traveling to exciting destinations to sharing a love for concerts and local cuisines. The couple often enjoyed the joy of RV travel, attending exhilarating football games, thrilling NASCAR races, and unwinding at picturesque campgrounds.
A Heart for Service
Sherri’s generous spirit rippled throughout the community. She dedicated her time and talents to several boards, including those of the Myrtle Beach Chamber, North Myrtle Beach Chamber, Georgetown Chamber, and Little River Chamber. She was also an active member of Caring in Our Lifetime, a local organization focused on supporting those affected by breast cancer in Horry and Georgetown counties. During her time, she contributed tirelessly to fundraising and volunteering at local festivals.
In recognition of her community efforts, Sherri was honored as a McLeod Seacoast Fellow in 2019 and graduated from the Leadership Grand Strand program, which celebrates leadership among individuals in the Grand Strand area. Sherri’s friendly personality and dedication earned her the prestigious title of ambassador for the Grand Strand.
Leaving a Legacy
Sherri leaves behind her husband, David, her Shih Tzu Cami, her mother Marilyn, her brother Scott, and a beautiful family that includes her nephew Austin and great-niece Evelyn Rose. Though she was preceded in death by her father and beloved pets, her legacy continues through the wide circle of friends, family, and coworkers who were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Forever in Our Hearts
In honoring Sherri’s memory, a viewing will be held on Monday, August 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at McMillan Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach. The following day, services will commence at 2 p.m. at the same location, culminating with a Celebration of Life from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at The Breakers Resort in the Farlow Ballroom. In a touching tribute, attendees are encouraged to wear fuchsia, a color that holds a special significance for Sherri’s sorority nickname.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sherri’s memory can be made to her favorite charities. Her impact will undoubtedly resonate in the hearts of many, as the community reflects on the shining light she was and continues to be.
