Myrtle Beach Rallies to Support Boone After Hurricane Helene

This past Sunday was a big day in Myrtle Beach as nearly 50 student-athletes from Coastal Carolina University rolled up their sleeves and teamed up with local officials to lend a helping hand to communities affected by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina. Talk about a great display of community spirit!

Filling Up the Trucks

The scene at the loading site was nothing short of amazing. With volunteers coming from a variety of university sports teams—including men’s soccer, baseball, beach volleyball, track and field/cross country, and both men’s and women’s basketball—the team spirit was palpable! It’s kind of heartwarming to see athletes who “play hard” on the field or court coming together for such a noble cause.

They filled two trailers, a truck, and an SUV with donations that will head out early next month. It just goes to show that while these athletes compete fiercely, they also have hearts of gold when it comes to helping those in need.

Goods Galore!

The Myrtle Beach parks, recreation, and sports tourism department is continuing to collect donations up until Thursday, and they’re hoping the community steps up in a big way. From non-perishable food items to personal care products, the objective is to fill every nook and cranny of the convoy. If you want to help out, make sure to swing by and drop off your goods before the deadline!

A Community with a Heart

This initiative is part of a larger effort along the Grand Strand focused on recovery operations following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. While the winds may have calmed, the need is certainly still there, and it’s inspiring to see our local athletes and city officials rallying together to support fellow Carolinians who have faced so much difficulty.

It’s not just about the tangible goods being collected; it’s also about spreading hope and love—two things that Myrtle Beach folks pride themselves on. The efforts like these remind us that we’re all in this together, no matter where we are. When one goes down, we all feel it, and we all step up.

Get Involved!

So, if you’re feeling inspired by the hard work of these student-athletes, why not get involved yourself? Donations are being accepted until Thursday, and every little bit helps. It’s a perfect opportunity to clean out your pantry or pick up a few extra items during your grocery run. Plus, it feels great to know you’re making a difference!

Looking Ahead

As Myrtle Beach continues to show its true colors of compassion and care, let’s keep an eye on how our students, community leaders, and everyone in between works together toward recovery. This convoy to Boone is just one of many ways we’re showcasing our Southern hospitality and unity. Whether cheering on our athletes or helping neighbors in need, every effort counts.

So, here’s to the athletes, volunteers, and everyone in Myrtle Beach who are making a positive impact in the world. Together, we can weather any storm and come out stronger on the other side!
