Myrtle Beach Man Receives 45-Year Sentence for 2020 Murder

Conviction and Sentence

Craig L. Legette, a 41-year-old man from Myrtle Beach, was dealt a decisive blow in court recently. Found guilty of a murder committed in 2020, the individual has been sentenced by the judiciary. In a trial of heightened interest, Legette was accused and held responsible for the crime of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent act. This trial that had started on Monday reached its culmination on Thursday with the conviction of Legette.

In light of the severe charges, Legette faced a significant sentence. The judge handed down a hefty 45-year sentence for the murder. Additionally, the defendant was also facing another charge for weapon possession linked to the incident. Resultantly, he received a 5-year term for this crime. Both sentences will be served concurrently.

Parole Not an Option

An important point raised during this ruling was that the murder charge isn’t eligible for parole or an early release. Therefore, Legette has to serve the entire duration of the sentence (45 years) before he can even consider eligibility for release.

Background of the Case

The disastrous event that led to this trial took place in August of 2020. Victim Kentrell Ferguson met with a fatal incident. Reports disclosed that Ferguson was shot in the back and the foot as he was attempting to leave the scene near Clay Pond Road in Myrtle Beach, specifically the Fountain Point Apartments. The victim was later discovered to be in his vehicle near the site of the incident. The unfortunate circumstance led to Ferguson’s death due to the severity of the injuries.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, this incident was recorded on a surveillance video. Armed with this evidence, the Horry County Police Department was quick to respond to the crime scene. They found the vehicle as well as the location where the shooting took place. The swift investigation and evidence evaluation led to the arrest of Legette merely days after the incident occurred. The individual surrendered himself to the police, following which he was arrested for the crime.
