Myrtle Beach – An armed suspect was involved in a police chase that ended with a stolen vehicle crash near 67th Avenue North and U.S. 17 bypass on Thursday morning, May 22. The incident began at approximately 8:15 a.m. when officers from the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) observed a suspicious vehicle occupied by four masked individuals at South Ocean Boulevard.
Upon attempting to approach the vehicle, it fled the scene, prompting a high-speed pursuit. During the chase, the suspects reportedly fired shots at the pursuing officers; however, there were no reported injuries to law enforcement or the general public. Around 8:30 a.m., assistance from the Horry County Police Department (HCPD) was requested as the chase intensified.
Witnesses in the area described hearing gunshots in the Market Common vicinity along Farrow Parkway during the pursuit. One observer, a teacher from Coastal High School, reported seeing a suspect leaning out of a white Dodge Durango holding an assault rifle. In response to the unfolding situation, the school’s principal confirmed that students were instructed to follow safety protocols by dropping to the ground, and parents were informed of the event.
The police pursuit concluded when the stolen vehicle crashed in the Market Common area, resulting in a collision involving two other vehicles. Authorities detained four suspects from the vehicle; however, only two of them are facing charges. The two individuals charged include 17-year-old Riley Pegram, who faces multiple serious charges such as three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, kidnapping, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a stolen vehicle, and failure to stop. The second charged suspect, 20-year-old Omarion Glass from Greensboro, North Carolina, faces similar allegations, which also include three counts of attempted murder and using a minor in the commission of a crime.
The other two individuals detained were released without any charges. In the aftermath of the crash, law enforcement temporarily closed the area surrounding Market Common to conduct an investigation into the incident. Capt. Jon Evans from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department indicated that two patients from the crash were reported; however, details regarding the severity of their injuries remain unclear at this time.
Local residents have expressed concerns regarding community safety following the event. Law enforcement reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat posed to the community after the ordeal concluded. As this situation develops, authorities are expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
