Attention Myrtle Beach Diners: Recent Restaurant Inspection Results Reveal Food Safety Concerns

Restaurant Inspection Highlights

Attention Myrtle Beach Foodies: Latest Restaurant Inspection Results Are In!

Hey Myrtle Beach, we know how much you love dining out! Whether it’s grabbing a slice of pizza, some wings, or enjoying a beachside cocktail, nothing beats the joy of good food. But, just like a good playlist, some spots hit all the right notes while others might leave you questioning your choices. Recently, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) has been busy checking in on our favorite local places. Here’s the scoop on what’s been going down in Horry and Georgetown County!

What’s the Deal with Inspections?

First off, a quick note on what these inspections are about. The SCDA took over regular health and safety checks after the Department of Health and Environmental Control was eliminated. Restaurants are scored on a scale from 0 to 100, with scores of 88 and above earning an A, scores between 78 and 87 landing a B, and anything 77 or below a C. Sound fair? Well, it’s not just about the numbers; restaurants can be docked points for repeated violations or major concerns like imminent health hazards.

What Did Inspectors Find?

So, what did the inspectors uncover in the latest round of checks? Let’s dive into some of the highlights (or lowlights!) from the inspection reports:

SoCo Wood Fired Pizza – Score: 78

Located at 107 Screven Street, Georgetown, SoCo Wood Fired Pizza offered some surprising news on September 25. This beloved spot had multiple violations including open bags of flour stored in an unfinished outdoor room and unclean cooking pans hanging out on outside shelves. The bar dish machine also had zero sanitizer concentration—yikes! Plus, they found food like pasta and veggies chilling at unsafe temperatures. Expect inspectors to follow up on October 5, so let’s hope for a quick turnaround!

CW’s Wing and Rib Shack – Score: 79

Next up, we ventured to CW’s Wing and Rib Shack at 117 Rivertown Blvd., Conway. On September 23, inspectors noted a few concerning practices, like employee drinks resting on a prep cooler cutting board and a cutting board just sitting on the floor. Yeah, not the best choice for food safety! They also spotted unlabelled partially cooked chicken and a bit of a mess under the cooking line. Make sure to check back after their follow-up on October 3!

Pawleys Raw Bar – Score: 82

Over at Pawleys Raw Bar located at 9448 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, inspectors came across some pesky black flies in the kitchen on September 23. Not the vibe we were hoping for, right? Moreover, they found that some seafood dishes weren’t stored at correct temperatures, and the equipment didn’t have sufficient sanitizer. They’ll be back for a follow-up on October 3, so keep your fingers crossed!

Cutty’s Pizza – Score: 84

Last but not least, Cutty’s Pizza at 1442 Highway 17, Little River scored 84 on September 25. While it’s not all doom and gloom, they had their share of violations as well. Pizza was not stored at safe temperatures, and slices lacked proper labeling for discard times. There was also a concerning gap in the back door, signaling a potential pest problem. Their follow-up is scheduled for October 5.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, Myrtle Beach—while we love our local eateries, it’s important to keep an eye on their hygiene and safety practices. Keep supporting your favorites, but also keep these reports in mind the next time you grab a bite. Let’s hope these restaurants step up and shine bright in the next round of inspections. Here’s to more tasty—and safe—meals out!
